There is a good chance that you grew up in a home that had blinds at least somewhere in it. And for good reason: blinds are the quintessential window treatment, and there are blinds that are perfect for almost every window you could think of. At A Shade Above in Middletown, RI, we pride ourselves on our full selection of Hunter Douglas blinds, and would love to help you find the perfect blinds for any room or window in your home.
Choosing Vertical or Horizontal
While all blinds from Hunter Douglas are all going to be fantastic, you will need to decide whether you want to choose vertical or horizontal blinds. While they may seem interchangeable, there are going to be times where each of them would be more appropriate. For windows of standard sizes, or more formal spaces, horizontal blinds are going to be your best choice because of Hunter Douglas’s selection of authentic hardwood blinds. But because of the arrangement of the slats on horizontal blinds, they are not particularly well suited for large windows or sliding glass doors. Here is where vertical blinds are a life-saver. Because they are pushed from side to side rather than raised up and lowered down, they are a great option for large windows that may be difficult to reach, or sliding glass patio doors, allowing you easy access to a pool, veranda, or backyard without sacrificing light control.
Choosing the Right Material
Hunter Douglas offers a wide variety of materials for you to choose from for your blinds. This will vary according to the orientation that you choose: horizontal blinds are typically made of harder materials, such as aluminum or hardwood, while vertical blinds are going to be made of softer materials, such as fabric or vinyl. While all of these materials are of the highest quality, certain materials, and hardwood in particular, are going to require additional maintenance, so be conscious of how much extra housework you are willing to add to keep your Hunter Douglas blinds in showroom shape.
